Friday @ 5 a boost for University Park YMCA
Guests of Friday @ 5 had a chance to bid on an African safari, beautiful jewelry, a week’s stay at an Orlando, Fla., condo as well as a made-to-order pasta buffet.
All proceeds from the Friday evening gala at Portage Country Club will benefit the University Park YMCA. The organization provides financial assistance for memberships and programs that support kids, teens, adults and families.
Verna Riley was chairwoman and Barbara Brunt co-chaired the event, which was attended by about 200 guests. Madeline Bozzelli, founder of Friday @ 5, was honorary chairwoman.
Committee members who helped make the evening a success included Chuck Bond, Janna Bruner, John Cassiday, Debbie Farris, J.C. Fisher, Yvonne Gillette, John Grigas, Judy Kallenbach, Richard King, Josie McElroy, Dan Samels and Rob Winston. Volunteers Jennifer Herold, Serina Inch and Meagan Shaheen helped guests as they viewed the auction tables.
Brook Ames was auctioneer for the evening.
“Everyone seems to like my baklava,” said Gerri Gruic, who donated some of her tasty treats to the event.
Loretta Rufener bid on baked goods as well as a painting.
“I work out at the Y, so it has a health benefit not only for me but for my family and the entire community,” said guest Lisa Byder.
“There are so many outstanding services for seniors,” Roger Williams said.
Zac Kohl, community outreach director for University Park YMCA, said, “This event will provide scholarships for the youth in our neighborhoods.”
Donna Grigas and her husband, John, have attended the fundraiser 15 out of its 17 years.
Rosetta Blanton invited her friends, Shirley and Clive Riddiford.
